The lucerna was an oil lamp used in ancient Rome to provide artificial light. It has a reservoir for the oil and a hole for the wick. These lamps you see here are modeled in refractory clay and each one is painted with a different oxide: cobalt blue, iron brown, and copper green. They are also covered with a glaze. The design of each one is unique and original.
